About Us
Business Description
OCEES International, Inc. is a 21-year-old research and development company focused on renewable power generation together with the production of desalinated water. The company was incorporated in 1998.
In 2010, JPF Venture Fund 1, LP took a majority interest position to help fund the commercialization of OCEES technology.
Small Business Innovation Research Technology (SBIR)
Through its Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) credentials, OCEES is pursuing a promising contracting opportunity with the U.S. Government and researching potential non-government contracts with private companies. OCEES seeks to commercialize the technology known as Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC), a proven method to produce renewable energy and desalinated water from the temperature gradient of the ocean.
Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC)
OCEES has developed renewable energy systems based upon the principle of OTEC.
OTEC is a proven way of producing sustainable energy and desalinated water from the ocean in an environmentally friendly way.
1.6 billion people in developing countries still have no regular access to reliable energy services. Many countries and small island states import fossil fuel to operate their power plants. This includes countries in tropical and sub-tropical regions of the world. Think of Caribbean Islands, Pacific Rim, Africa, India, Philippines – all places where there is a shortage of sustainable energy and fresh water.
The global demand for freshwater is soaring. Climate change has created unsettling weather consequences such as severe drought, cyclone’s, typhoon’s, hurricane’s and tornado’s affecting millions of people. Today, one out of six people—more than a billion—do not have adequate access to safe water. The United Nations projects that by 2025, half of the countries worldwide will face water stress or outright shortages. By 2050, as many as three out of four people around the globe could be affected by water scarcity.
OCEES has further developed Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion technology that will provide proven and effective renewable energy and water production systems to help alleviate some of these problems.

Large Addressable Market
Ocean Thermal Energy Corporation’s proprietary OTEC and SWAC/LWAC plant designs have generated a robust pipeline of inquiries, global customers, and projects:
- US Government: Territories and Military Bases in the Asia Pacific Region. Combined OTEC/Potable Water/Sustainable Food production opportunities – Ongoing discussions with US Government for OTEC and/or SWAC/LWAC Plants for Military Bases and US Territories such as Guam, and Hawaii.
- US Virgin Islands: Following a 2-year feasibility study, OTE has designed an OTEC system for the US Virgin Islands providing renewable energy and water for drinking, agriculture, and economic development for an entire community. Our OTEC system has been approved by the USVI Public Services Commission (PSC).
- Tropical and Subtropical Regions of the World: Currently, 3.0 Billion people live in our market. This number is expected to rise to 7.0 Billion by 2050*. OTEC can play a key role in providing sustainable energy and freshwater to these communities OTEC is particularly well suited to produce clean base-load energy and fresh water.

Seawater and Lake Source Cooling(SWAC/LSC)
The Company’s seawater and lake source cooling technology (SWAC/LSC) is designed for large commercial buildings, hotels, airports, crypto-mining operations, data centers and industry. OCEES engineers designed a SWAC system for a large resort in The Bahamas, and the Company has produced SWAC designs for U.S. Military bases either as a part of its SBIR credentials or through partnership arrangements with large U.S. companies. Multiple examples of SWAC and LSC technology are in use today around the world.
Green Hydrogen Through Electrolysis Generated by OTEC
Company engineers have also developed proprietary technology to produce large-scale production of green hydrogen through electrolysis generated by OTEC facilities. Although in the research phase, OCEES engineers are participating in a U.S. Department of Energy-sponsored project to advance the technology further.
Proof of Concept
Our Engineers worked on a research and development OTEC system at the Natural Energy of Hawaii Authority (NELHA), that proved OTEC can produce green energy and desalinated seawater 24/7/365 without the use of fossil fuels. OTEC technology is well-proven and is financially viable at scale.
OCEES Seawater Air Conditioning/Lake Source Cooling (SWAC/LSC) technology offers green air conditioning without the use of chemical agents and is well-proven and used in various locations around the world.
Acting alone, SWAC/LSC can reduce electricity usage by up to 90% when compared to traditional air conditioning systems. When developed in conjunction with OTEC plants, it operates entirely without the use of fossil fuels.
SWAC/LSC plants use less fresh water and reduce environmental impact. SWAC/LSC systems are particularly suited to large commercial operations such as resorts, hospitals, airports, shopping centers, and even entire cities.
